Story Behind the Artwork

There is something magical about Toronto’s early red-and-cream buses — the way they rumbled down quiet neighbourhood streets, carrying everyday stories of the city long before the skyline grew tall. Bus No. 62, captured here in vivid colour, belonged to an era when transit vehicles were crafted with character, charm, and unmistakable style.

This artwork began as a tribute to that history. I wanted to preserve the feeling of a simpler Toronto — warm summer light on old streetcar tracks, leafy trees framing the roadway, and the graceful curves of a bus design that has now become a rare sight.

Each line and colour layer was carefully developed to highlight the nostalgia of mid-century transit. Printed on Baltic birch wood, the natural grain adds an organic warmth, making the scene feel as if it’s part of Toronto’s past preserved in time.

For longtime Torontonians, transit enthusiasts, and anyone who loves the soul of the city, this piece offers a window into a cherished chapter of local history — one that still lives in memory, and now, on your wall.
